Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I used to run loads and I still raise lots of money for various charities at my coffee stand at British Eventing Horse Trials.

2012 is a special year for me: I have been accepted as a volunteer at the Paralympics in August / September 2012, and I have decided to mark this by using a return to running as a way of raising money for Spinal Research.

The challenges are as follows:

1. 2012 running miles in the year. As of July 6th I have logged 1081 miles.

2. Running city marathons:

Virgin London Marathon, 22 April - completed in 4h 12 min

ING New York City Marathon, 4 November

Suncorp Richmond (Va) Marathon, 10 November

3. An ultramarathon:

The Nottingham 50 km Trail / road ultra, 7 October

4. The #claireswalk challenge. Now the Ridgeway "By Any Means"

4 stage 85 mile Ridgeway National Trail run, 6-9 December.

Bryan Elliot will be joining me on this one and hopefully others will visit with various modes of transport along the way #rwbam

(Having supported paralysed Claire Lomas in her attempt to walk the London marathon in a re-walk suit, I had promised Claire I would add a challenge if she finished. After 17 days, she did just that.)

My main inspiration is Ruth Mathieson. Ruth was an ambitious amateur event rider whose life took a dramatic turn after an horrific fall on the cross country at Nurstead Horse Trials in April 2011. After suffering a catastrophic spinal injury, Ruth spent 4 months in Stoke Mandeville Hospital and remains paralysed in 2/3 of her body. However she is now out of hospital and, along with some committed friends, is determined to make a difference in helping other riders learn to avoid such injury. I have pledged to her that I will raise money to help fund research into spinal injury repair so that one day many more people will walk again.
