On Thursday 1 August I am heading to Ibiza. On a stag do. Having vowed some years ago to swerve stag do’s full stop, I am increasingly regarding this as unadulterated madness. On the upside, I am departing said event prematurely, on Saturday lunchtime no less. Though to be clear, this is not the function of some newly mature damage limitation plan.
Oh no, not a bit of it. I am, in fact, returning early in order to participate in the Prudential RideLondon – 100 miles on a bike, from London to Surrey and back again, raising money for the Palace for Life Foundation. As if to underline the Corinthian approach, save from a regular but relatively brief commute, training has been limited at best.
Consequently, I anticipate this this will prove to be one of the hardest things I have ever undertaken. Not only is this going to be very difficult, but it is an incredible cause and your money will find an excellent home supporting more than 13,000 young South Londoners annually prepare for a better life.
Palace for Life Foundation leverages the power of football and the Crystal Palace FC brand to change the lives of young people across South London, particularly the most hard-to-reach and hard-to-help. We work with over 13,000 people a year, inspiring them to find a better path and lead a healthier life. We provide football sessions for young people with a disability, to delivering engaging assemblies and workshops with free sessions in sport and other activities, alongside pastoral support, to instil positive values and help prepare participants for a better life. We have strong connections within the local community and businesses and run programmes designed to equip young people with the skills they need to think about their future careers. We believe that everyone matters, irrespective of their background and beliefs, and by giving extra support to the most vulnerable., we will help create a better community and society.
