Story
In September 2018, I was diagnosed with a BRCA1 genetic mutation.
What is a BRCA1 and what does it mean for me?
If you have BRCA1, it means that you have a mutation in one of the breast cancer genes and therefore a much higher risk of developing breast cancer or ovarian cancer compared with someone who doesn't have the mutation. But a positive test result doesn't mean that you'll ultimately develop cancer. Having the BRCA1 gene means I will have choices to make.
Every day in the UK, 58 women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer and 21 will die.
By supporting The Eve Appeal, your generosity and fundraising can help fund innovative new research. It can help drive promising research projects forward. And it can help save lives.
