Story
On 10th June 2023, we have signed ourselves up to compete in this year's Norfolk Superhero Challenge. This is a charity quadrathlon event held annually at Burnham Overy Staithe on the beautiful North Norfolk coast.
We will be competing (or aiming to get round...) as a team of two brothers covering a course that includes a 1 mile sea swim in from near Scolt Head Island, a 4 mile kayak through the marsh creeks, a 45 mile circular cycle route around North Norfolk and finally an 8 mile run back across the beach finishing with the last mile over the marsh.
I think it would be fair to say one of us will be far more daunted by this challenge than the other......and some significant training is going to be required to ensure we have a fighting chance of finishing! We would be incredibly grateful for your support in raising funds for this event.
All funds raised in the 2023 Norfolk Superhero will go to supporting the Norfolk Community Foundation's Nourishing Norfolk initiative to ensure that no one in Norfolk goes hungry. They are working with local charities to set up food hubs where people can access healthy, nutritious food at low prices or for free, offering the benefit of dignity and choice for people living under increasing financial pressure to meet basic needs. As we all encounter higher food prices and rising costs of living, this charity and the work they do has never been more important and we would like to do all we can to raise as much money as possible to support such a good cause.
From community centres and church porches to stand-alone supermarkets and mobile food buses, the Nourishing Norfolk Network is a continuously evolving coalition of locally-run and locally-supported affordable food outlets. People struggling with the cost of living can routinely save around 40% off their average weekly shop through using their local food hub.
Furthermore, to address the underlying problems that may lead to food insecurity, the food hubs link people to local support such as money advice, cookery classes, or employment support.
Thank you very much indeed for any support you can give and we are both extremely grateful.
