Virgin London Marathon 2013 · 21 April 2013 ·

Since 1988, St Luke’s has been providing specialist, palliative care and support to local people, supporting them in ways which go beyond the scope and funding of the NHS. Our support begins from the moment someone is diagnosed, through to palliative care and ultimately end of life care.

Story

I'm raising money for St Luke's (Cheshire) Hospice in Winsford, which is where in 2003 my mum spent the last few weeks of her life. I did the marathon in 2004 and raised money for the hospice then, and I haven't pestered anyone for sponsorship - or managed to run a marathon - since, and nine years feels like a decent interval.

You don't need me to tell you about hospices. They do wonderful work and have to raise all their own money. I'd be very grateful if you could put a few pounds in. I will definitely have a terrible time at the marathon if that helps persuade you: you will have my permission to laugh scornfully at me.
