Story
Five years ago, I entered the 3 kilometre race that takes place as part of the Angkor Wat half marathon in Cambodia. I couldn't finish the 3km - in fact, after the first kilometre I had to stop and walk the rest. That was all the proof I needed that I had to make a change. I vowed that one day I'd go back to Angkor Wat and complete the whole 21km. So, here I am.
As I'm training in 32-degree Bangkok heat (!), I thought I might persuade you to donate a few quid to an organisation that means a lot to me. I'm running for Refuge, which runs the National Domestic Abuse Helpline because, as a former survivor (now a thriver!) of domestic violence, I know how vital their service is for victims of violence and abuse. I made a lot of calls to their hotline, and now I'd like to raise what I can to make sure it can continue helping other women who need it.
One woman in four will experience domestic violence at some point in her lifetime and two women are killed each week in England and Wales by a current or former partner. By kindly sponsoring me today you are helping to save and change the lives of thousands of women and children escaping domestic violence.
Thank you.
