On September 11th 2021 the team & I will be taking part in trek 26, Stonehenge to raise money and awareness in Mum's memory for this fantastic cause.
Dementia is a syndrome associated with an ongoing decline of brain functionality. The most common type of dementia in the UK is Alzheimer's disease. Mum lost her battle to early-onset dementia in the form of Alzheimer's disease in April 2021 aged just 61. Alzheimer's is a progressive disease, meaning the symptoms develop gradually over many years (in Mums case nearly 5 years) and eventually become more severe. The disease is a life-limiting illness which attacks the brain, making it hard for people with the disease to perform day to day tasks. In Mum's case it started with confusion in day to day tasks such as paying for items with cash, or reading & writing. Over the years they symptoms progressed to Mum being unable to communicate verbally with us, and at the end stages in hospital Mum was unable to eat or drink. The disease caused Mum to have a grand mal seizure, which she didn't recover from & two weeks later passed away in hospital with her family by her side.
Annual statistics reported dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK, in 2020/21 it killed more people than Covid. We want to raise money to help the charity to continue to research the cause, cure, care and prevention of this disease so that others won't have to go through the same thing that Mum (Gill) and so many other have.
Even the smallest donation will make a huge difference. Thank you xxxxx
