Story
I have never claimed to be a writer but here goes.
In life there is always a friendship that is perfectly balanced.
The sort of friend that you can call at 2:00am and they’ll answer.
The sort of friend where you could show up on her doorstep and immediately be invited in for coffee (or wine. Actually, always wine).
The sort of friend that will throw up on your shoes and not need to apologise. Even if they were your favourite shoes.
The sort of friend where you dread her Maid of Honour speech on your wedding day because she knows literally everything about you.
The friend where you can start a message with “MATE” and she immediately grabs the popcorn for the next instalment of your ridiculous life.
For me, that friend is Kirsty.
Kirsty has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. A right n*b of a syndrome actually. Despite this it has never stopped her achieving anything she has put her mind to. Currently she is on her grand hospital tour of the UK on what has so far been a three week stint. The condition affects so many aspects of her life, including multiple dislocations, chronic pain, fatigue and autonomic system issues but unfortunately can not be blamed for her behaviour after several glasses of white wine.
More research needs to be done into this a*****e of a condition- so I’m going to try and raise some awareness and hopefully some money since I can’t be there with her to annoy her every minute of every day.
So, what can I do? I can’t run a marathon as, well, I can’t. Plus Luke has already done that. (show off).
She’s coeliac so baking is out.
I’m scared of heights so can’t jump out of a plane.
I’m a gobshite so no chance of a sponsored silence (plus who would yell at my kids for me?)
And I like wine too much to give it up. Even for her.
So let’s shave my head!
The lovely boys at the Barber Shop in Craven Arms are going to shave my head on Sunday 30th August this year.
Donate some money? My bald head will appreciate it.
