Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page.
During the 22 years of my life I have never been athletic, I didn't chose to participate in sports and I wouldn’t consider myself the healthiest of people. However, regardless of my lack of self-motivation, asthma or experience, I have chosen to run the 10k marathon in Christchurch, New Zealand. I recently found out that Mapledown School lost their funding for yoga classes, and knowing these children will be without these classes was enough to motivate me to try and make a difference. I have visited the school, sat through the yoga classes and witnessed how the children have progressed. They have made a personal connection with the teacher, they are able to relax, move around in a calm manner, get out of their wheelchairs, and attempt to gain peace of mind. I believe it is extremely important to raise funds to keep these classes going, and allow these children to reap the benefits of this wonderful exercise.
Please join forces with me to help fund these classes, and donate as little or as much. 100% of this funding will go to the yoga classes, and I will be happy to send pictures and updates so you can see how your donation has helped these children.

Thank you so much
Jagadamba Yoga
I teach Yoga to children/adults with Special Needs. I have created my own style of Yoga called Jagadamba Yoga. This style was developed specifically for children at Mapledown School, as it works very well for them. I also incorporate Makaton Yoga with the help of a Makaton tutor at the School.
I have been teaching Jagadamba Yoga at Mapledown School now for more than 3 years. The school has worked very hard to keep the funding going throughout these years. I started off teaching a 45mins class, which increased to 4 classes a week. During the first year the School began to realise the powerful impact of Yoga. They saw some of the most challenging students find a new way of being. The students were learning routines which were new to them (very important for students with Autistic Spectrum Continum) following techniques, experiencing a very calm and relaxed and extended period of time (previously unheard of).
In order to communicate with the students for them to get full benefit, I learnt basic Makaton for Eddie Pringle (Makaton Tutor). It is unbelievable how the students have responded.
Unfortunately the funding has now completely stopped with the “cut backs”. We are all devastated. I am not just thinking of how hard I have worked with the kids or how much progress we have made, but I am thinking about how unfair it is to take something so precious away from children that can’t stand up for themselves and say “I don’t want this to stop!!”
Please donate to this website to raise funds so we can continue our Yoga classes.
Your donations will be very much appreciated.
