I am part of a team of friends and associates that are aiming to climb 18 mountains in the Cairngorms over 4 days in one continuous walk.
This will be a tough, wild and remote long distance mountain trek. A serious undertaking that will be physically and mentally challenging.
The Cairngorms are the largest mountain massif in the British Isles. Our route has 9 of the top 20 highest mountains in the UK (all of which are Munros - Scottish mountains over 914m, 3000ft).
We will carry everything we need to survive on our backs and will sleep on the mountain facing up to whatever the mountain weather will throw at us. We'll likely encounter high winds, driving rain, and worse case, snow and blizzards. Keep your fingers crossed for at least a little bit of sunshine.
We will walk 120km and climb 6,800 metres (75 miles and 22,500ft) in total.
It will take us 10 to 12 hours to cover 16 to 18 miles each day.
To put this into a broader perspective:
Each day this is the equivalent of walking across the English Channel between Dover and Calais.......and we'll be doing it 4 days in a row.
While we're walking to Calais, each day we also have to go up and down the Eiffel Tower 5 times (by the stairs of course) while carrying the equivalent of a bag of logs on our backs.
In March 2016, a member of the team lost her mother to Motor Neurone Disease. This is a progressive disease that attacks the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which lead to weakness and wasting. MND can leave people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk, swallow and eventually breathe. A third of people diagnosed die within a year and, as yet, there is no cure. The money we raise will go towards research and supporting sufferers in the later stages of their life.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I really appreciate your support.
