Story

Headway promotes understanding of all aspects of brain injury and provide information, support and services to survivors, their families and carers.

I chose Headway as close family friend, George Peasgood, double Paralympic medalist and 2x World Paracycling Time Trial Champion, was involved in a freak accident whilst on a regular training ride on 1st October 2022, the day before his 27th Birthday.

George suffered a diffuse axonal injury (DAI), one of the most debilitating forms of traumatic brain injuries.  George spent 7 weeks in a coma in Addenbrookes Hospital.  He is now in the Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit at Homerton Hospital on the long journey to recovery.  He is making great progress but still has a mountain to climb.

Brain injuries can challenge every aspect of your life, walking, talking, thinking and feeling and the losses can be severe and permanent. It can mean losing the life you once lived and the person you once were. We all think 'it will never happen to me', but every year around 350,000 people are admitted to hospital with an acquired brain injury. That's one every 90 seconds.

Running the London Marathon for Headway is my way of supporting George on his road to recovery.
