Story
Wivey pool has always been supportive to Taunton School's long distance swimmers and has helped 4 teams swim the Channel, 3 teams swim around Jersey and 30 pupils with 6 staff swim The Solent. Sadly it has been forced to go into preservation mode and has made an announcement on BBC Radio and BBC Points West to this affect. The spiralling costs of energy are crippling the pools revenue streams, last year’s gas bill was £7000, this year it is projected to be £25000. Consequently the trustees have taken the sad decision to curtail their opening in September, to close over Autumn, Christmas and will delay opening in 2023 until the average ambient air temperatures rises. The pool want to invest in a heat exchange system which will help ween them off gas and be more environmentally friendly going forward. Without future proofing the pool there is a risk the pool will close indefinitely. We want to help save Wivey Pool for future generations of Taunton School Long Distance Swimmers to train for the English Channel and other swim based challenges
