Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our fundraising page. As you can see our challenge is huge so please help us realise our target (and get us across the channel!)
We are six midwives working at Southmead Hospital in Bristol and have set ourselves the challenge of swimming the 22miles from Dover to Calais for an amazing cause close to us - SafeHands for Mothers.
Every year between 500,000 and 600,000 women die from pregnancy-related causes; 99% of these deaths occur in developing countries.
SafeHands calls for a renewed effort to combat the unnecessarily high number of women who die during pregnancy and childbirth. A woman living in sub-Saharan Africa has a 1 in 16 chance of dying during pregnancy and childbirth. An international goal has been set to achieve a 75% reduction by 2015.
