Story
Two young girls who met at Primary School and became friends have now teamed up to do one BIG challenge, which involves Swimming the English Channel in September 2013.
The crossing is from Shakespeare Beach, Dover, to Cap Gris Nez (the headland halfway between Calais and Boulogne). The distance is 21 miles.
We aim to complete the swim in less than 16 hours. There are many rules and guidelines to follow through The Channel Swim Association to complete our challenge. We have to hire the services of a support boat with a trained pilot and observer.
It is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world with 600 tankers passing through and 200 ferries/seacats and other vessels going across daily.
We are only allowed to wear a swimming costume, a swimming hat and a pair of goggles!! so plenty of goose/ duck fat will be applied to help with Jellyfish sliding off us rather than biting and to help with any chafing, It hopefully will help with a little insulation too.
The water temperature varies between 59°F (15°C) - 64/65°F (18°C). So Chilly, Chilly Chilly!
We are raising money for a local Somerset based charity called Help The Child. The aim of Help The Child is to assist Somerset children with physical disabilities, learning difficulties and sensory impariment to maximise their full potential through the purchase of specialised equipment and educational toys. The charity is run by a small group of volunteers who give their time and dedication to support the children.
So please dig deep and donate now. Thank you from Sarah and Lindsay x
