In May/June 2018, Lorraine and John cycled the length of France, from the Channel to the Med and along the way raised funds for a crucial charity, local and dear to us – The Rosemary Appeal.
This trip was tough but fun. We were blessed with good weather, great company and outstanding support. We covered approximately 900 miles over 14 days, averaging 70 miles a day and climbed over 20,000 metres. We returned with everything ‘intact’ but it definitely got harder toward the end of each day and hillier the further south we went. It was a relief to arrive at the Med ... and jump straight in!
Our challenge was nothing to that faced by those fighting life-threatening illnesses. Today people near to us, suffering from advanced illnesses such as Cancer and Renal disease, must travel far and wide to receive treatment. This places significant strain on them and their families. We cycled for ‘fun’ … yes, but also to raise awareness and funds to build a new treatment centre at West Berkshire Community Hospital. We are truly humbled by the generosity of all those who donated. Every penny you gave will mean patients will be able to receive the care they need closer to home, making their lives that bit easier. If you have not had a chance to yet, you can still donate online.
PS. John posted a daily video diary of the trip which you can watch at this link to see how we got on. ( cut and paste into your browser)
