We raise funds to support parents with babies in neonatal

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit ourJustGiving page.

UPDATE:

We tried but didn’t make it. In short we got to within 4.5miles of the coast of France but with the tide flowing north we would have been lucky to have between 18 hours and risked being caught up around the Calais harbour. We decided to withdraw after three full rotations knowing it would need the same again and the cold, tides and weather were not going our way on this occasion. Nevertheless we as a team would like to that all our supporters and we’ll wishers… we have raised approximately £5.5k over the last two years to get this far and we know that the charity will make very good use of these fund to continue their support for parents of neonates. Many thanks, Steve and the team

The 2022 swim did not happen due to poor weather on our possible slots. So 2022 is a writeoff.... However! We have agreement from the Pilot and the trust to try again in the 2023 season and we are now the first swimmers in the earliest window of 30th May to 4th June!

It will be cold but as we will only swim an hour each before getting out to warm up we hope that our two hour qulified before hand will stand up in good stead as it did this year. - We are off again and will start the new training regime to be faster and stronger over this winter.

Thanks for the support so far - this will be a long burn but the desire is still there to make this challenge and raise even more funds.

Steve (and team)

Simply put, our team aims to swim the English Channel, to raise fund for The Alexa Trust.

Our friends Howard & Esmari James lost their daughter Alexa,  tragically very early in life and they set up the charity in her honour to support families with babies in NeoNatal units. We are doing our part in supporting this amazing cause...

But not content with a standard crossing of the worlds busiest shipping lane,  we are crossing as a team of four in a Medley Relay format. That's Steve starting with backstroke, Nick with Breaststroke, Patrick with butterfly and Cormac for the front crawl and repeating, an hour each, until we reach the other side!

We will be the first all male Medley Relay attempt at the channel under CSA rules. The previous Medley crossing was complete with a mixed team in 11 hours 29 minutes. The target is to finish at all but a new record would be a real bonus!

We have just a few months left to be ready for this. 21 miles in a straight line which could be many more with the tide. The water is cold (~15 degrees C), the ships are big and the channel is notorious for changing conditions quickly. We will need all the help we can get but will keep you updated with our progress here.
