Story
Hello! I'm Simon. I'm a writer and performer based in Nottingham, UK.
I have lost people, who were very dear to me, to dementia. It's such a cruel and devastating disease.
I've written a brand new comedy drama (called CHALK - details below) to raise awareness of dementia and funds for Alzheimer's Society.
The world premiere production took place at the Robin Hood Theatre, in Averham, Nottinghamshire, in June 2021.

The Show
CHALK is a powerful new comedy drama about a man fighting for his life, his memories and his dignity.
Richard’s illness makes him forget - so he’s decided to relive his childhood, rediscover the love he left behind, bring everything back one last time, all set to the musical soundtrack of his life.
But, out there in the darkness, an invisible enemy is closing in and the clock is ticking. Can Richard communicate a final, urgent message before all is lost?
With short-term memories all but gone and longer-term memories fading quickly, this piece imagines how one person with dementia combats his illness by choosing to live out the remainder of his life, in his mind, as the 10-year-old schoolboy he was in the 1970s.
At turns comic and poignant, the play explores challenging themes about personal struggle in the face of serious illness and the search for sense, peace and dignity in the midst of it all.
There may be tears, and time travel, and Smurfs. Press play.
The Cause
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
Whilst Alzheimer’s Society has not been involved with the content of CHALK, the charity is delighted to have been given the generous opportunity to collect donations at performances and via the show’s JustGiving page. We are very grateful to Simon and all involved for this wonderful support.
