Only a week to go until the big run! If you can spare any loose change for a great cause it would be much appreciated. I am putting the work in!
Right I'm gonna play the birthday card now! Please donate some money not just for my big 30 ;-) but more importantly for a great cause
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running The Royal Parks Half Marathon to support my good friend Matheu Sullivan (Sully) and the fantastic charity that is Road Peace. Sully sadly lost his dad Jim in 2001 when he was hit by a car. Jim was the nicest bloke you could ever meet and a true legend. I cannot put into words any better than my mate Matheu so please see below:
“For those of you who don't know, my dad, Jim (or James) was my best friend and the best dad I could've asked for. In 2001, he was out on a night out for one of his good friend's birthday celebrations. He was on his way home, walking along Constitution Hill, next to BuckinghamPalace when a car hit him. Just before my dad went out, I was leaving work and he phoned me to say have a good night out myself; this was unusual for him to call me. Sadly, this was the last time that I got to speak to him.
A police investigation was launched into the death of my father, and resulted in a court trial. Unfortunately, we did not receive the verdict we not only sought, but deserved to bring a glimmer of justice to this tragic time.
He was an amazing man, who managed to put smiles on many faces and did, does and always will meant the world to my mum and I. I hope I can be half the dad to my boys that he was to me, if I am then I have done a good job.
The Royal Parks Half Marathon runs through 3 of the more well known parks in Central London, and is scheduled to run along Constitution Hill. I felt this was an ideal way to dedicate something to my dad, and I'm sure will fill me with many emotions when it comes to the day. I'm not much of a runner; those who know me through football will confirm this! However, I plan to give it my all, knowing this would be a great way to celebrate what would've been my dad's 60th year.
Road peace offers support to those affected by a road traffic collision; be it the victim or family and friends of the victims. They also campaign for changes in the law, and how victims are treated within the courts. One good example of work they have helped to achieve is the victim impact statements, which tell the court how the incident, be it a road collision, assault or theft, has changed their lives.”
Below is a link to the internet memorial for Jim. There is also a link to Road Peace's website, and outlines the great work they are doing.
