Story
In January 2020 we held our annual Team Day and invited guest speaker Anthony Bennett along. Little did we know how much his story would inspire us!
Anthony told us all how as a teenager he fell seriously ill after a school trip and ended up needing the specialist care of the team at Great Ormond Street Hospital (or GOSH for short!) in London. Anthony's story is nothing short of miraculous as his heart stopped not once but TWELVE times during his illness. The team at GOSH worked tirelessly to save Anthony's life and he slowly showed improvement and eventually recovered completely.
We were awe-struck by the impact that the team at GOSH had on Anthony, and indeed many other children and families throughout the UK and sometimes from beyond. We pledged on the spot to help raise much-needed funds to pay towards specialist equipment not funded by the NHS and research into childhood illnesses, which is particularly prudent this year with the investigation into how COVID-19 affects children.
We are completing a challenge this summer to travel 10,000 miles between us to raise money for GOSH. We'll be walking, running, cycling, rowing, swimming - you name it one of us will be doing it. It would be fantastic if you would give our team a bit of motivation and donate. We're aiming for £1 per mile so anything you can give to help us on the way would be fantastic!
Thank you,
The Chesterton House & Woolley Bees Teams
We're fundraising for GOSH Charity as they host the UK’s only paediatric National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC).
Since its formation in 1852, the hospital has been dedicated to children’s healthcare and to finding new and better ways to treat childhood illnesses.
They receive 237,908 outpatient visits and 43,218 inpatient visits every year (figures from 2018/19).
Most of the children they care for are referred from other hospitals throughout the UK and overseas.
Some of the work they do includes:
Cardiac surgery - They are one of the largest heart transplant centres for children in the world
Neurosurgery - They carry out about 60 per cent of all UK operations for children with epilepsy
This money will help them continue to provide the specialised care that seriously ill children need.
