This coming August, I am lucky enough to be serving as a Jesuit Volunteer (JV) in Portland, Maine with Preble Street's Emergency Food Service Program. As I prepare to apply to medical school, I want to take a step away from my studies to immerse myself in populations I hope to one day serve as a physician. 

I was drawn to Jesuit Volunteer Corps after learning about their four values which include community, social justice, simple living, and spirituality. I cannot wait to explore and foster each of these principles during my year in Portland. 

Preble Street provides access to emergency food programs, anti-trafficking services, health services, teen services, and housing services. Through my involvement with the emergency food program, I will assist the management team, help with pantry distribution, participate in mobile outreach, and cook meals in their kitchen. I am so excited to serve the people of Portland in any way that I can!
