My Story: I decided to take part in this amazing project as I have previously been to Tanzania and volunteered for a short time at DCT Mvumi High school. I had an unbelievable time, learning about their culture and how education is provided there. I've always wanted to go back but haven't an opportunity to, so when when I saw this project I knew I had to get involved!
The pandemic has really opened my eyes about the privilege I have and the resources I have access to. It's highlighted the differences in our cultures, as in the UK children weren't able to use public facilities like playgrounds due to lockdowns, in Uganda these facilities don't exist!
The pandemic has affected a lot of things and made it really hard on charities and their fundraising efforts. With a lot of things, either going online or getting cancelled all together. Events aren't possible and volunteers haven't been able to go abroad and help like they usually would with the pandemic limiting travel. So my first place abroad after the pandemic will be Uganda and what a great first place to travel to!
By taking part in this project it allows me to visit another school and help with improving they're education experience as Play Action International have conducted a study that’s shown the playgrounds they're building have big impacts on the children and their communities, such as increased attendance at school and better concentration in the classroom.
This trip will also broaden my viewpoint and be an amazing experience, that will stay with me forever. I understand that I am very privileged to live the life I do and I want to give back to those that aren't as lucky as me. I'm currently at university and trying to work two jobs on the side to raise funds for my flights and other expenses that aren't covered by my fundraising so any money you can help put towards this exciting journey would be greatly appreciated! Also if you do donate, don't forget to click gift aid!
Thanks and I can't wait to share my journey with you!
