Story
I gave birth to my beautiful twin boys, Bryn and Reuben, on the 20th of January, 10 years ago.
At 27 months of age they were diagnosed with a genetic, neuro metabolic disease, called Krabbe's Leukodystrophy.
A few months after their diagnosis both boys were bedridden, I'm multiple medications and had gastrostomy's fitted.
We had many breaks at Little Bridge House during the first couple of years after the diagnosis but the journey was very difficult.
When Little Harbour was opened, it really was a God send as the boys were able to visit more regularly for restbite as well as the invaluable emergency visits when their symptoms became extreme.
Bryn passed away on the 29th of November 2012 at Little Harbour. The care we were given as a family was amazing. The sibling team were on hand to help with my 2 older daughters, then aged 11 and 6.
We carried on visiting Little Harbour for the next 7 months including Christmas, which was a huge help as it was a very emotional time. Reuben passed away on the 4th of July 2013, also at Little Harbour.
After both boys had passed away, and still to this day, the wonderful staff at the Hospice, have kept in contact.
They truly are a fantastic charity! They get no government funding what so ever. I dread to think how our family would have coped if we hadn't had their support during the hardest times of our lives.
I'm doing this walk to raise awareness and money for this lifeline charity so that other families struggling with children in similar, devistating circumstances as my boys, can benefit from the wonderful support that we did 😊
