Story

My lovely Mam, pictured above was diagnosed in Sept last year with bowel cancer. she had been unwell on and off for some time. that month Mam had a gruelling opperation to remove a large part of her bowel. Mam  had 2 courses of oral chemo neither of which helped, she continued to deteriorate  an alarming rate! Mam bore all of this alone, never once admitting to anyone except St Davids and the district nurse that she was terminally ill. When she could hide it no longer 2 weeks before she died Mam told my Dad she was terminal.although Dad was distraught he was sworn to secrecy and assisted Mam in the deception that she would eventually get better. My brothers and i knew different and after dropping several hints and getting no where continued the pretence for her sake. 2 days before she died when Mam was away with the faries on morphine Dad told myself and my brothers that we were going to loose her. Although we knew, it was devastating! To watch my 6 foot, amazonian mother wither away and suffer so much from cruel, hateful, indiscriminate cancer, was and is the worst thing i have had to witness! Mam died with her family around her at 11.30 on the 7th of may, she died with courage and dignity. Since her death we have also discovered that Mam had at some point had breast cancer and that the bowel cancer was secondary, again she had bourne this alone telling no one not even my Dad!  Mam had for some considerable time relied on St Davids and the district nurse as confidents and carers. This is why i am doing my fundraising for St Davids to thank them for being there for my Mam when she wouldnt/couldnt allow her family to be! and in memory of the strongest, most courageous, brave, loving and selfless Mother whom i will miss desperately for the rest of my life!

And so after reading this if you could just spare a pound or 2 for St Davids and in memory of this wonderful mother of mine i will be eternally appreciative. Many thanks, Ceri x
