Story
Most of you are aware of my mums story. But for those of you that don't she suffers from a liver disease called primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC).
PBC is a chronic autoimmune disease that can, little by little, destroy some of the tubes linking your liver to your gut. These tubes are called bile ducts.
The bile ducts carry a fluid called bile to your gut (also known as your intestine or bowels). When PBC damages your bile ducts, bile can no longer flow through them. Instead it builds up in the liver, damaging the liver cells and causing inflammation and scarring.
Over the years this damage becomes widespread. The liver becomes less able to repair itself, leading to a condition known as cirrhosis. The damage caused to your liver cells by cirrhosis can result in the failure of your liver to carry out all of its jobs properly.
Unfortunately my mum has the aggressive form of this disease. There is no known cause or infact a cure for this horrible condition.
Due to the severity of her condition she has had to have 2 liver transplants. The last one was approx 6 years ago. We are desperate to find a cure for this dreadful disease because on average a new donar liver last up to 10 years. Mum unfortunately due to her age may not be considered for another transplant. To top this off, as if my mum hasnt been through enough she has recently suffered a stroke. She initially lost feeling down her left hand side but that has thankfully returned. Her speech is improving every day!
As you can see my mum is a true fighter and the biggest inspiration any daughter can have! Her positivity and strength has given her the quality of life doctors felt she would never have again!
So I feel the least I can do is run a measly 26.2 miles to help try and find a cure for this horrible condition.
It would mean the world to my family and I if you would be so kind as to donate to this worthy cause.
Many thanks
