Story
Female listeners of the podcast "Inside Tri Show" hosted by Helen Murray were given the opportunity to email in and enter into a competition to win a place in The Roc Triathlon!
"The Roc" is not your normal swim, bike & run triathlon. It starts on the beach of Abersoch and into the sea for a 1.5k swim, then we head off for a 50k/30mile fast bike route into Snowdonia. Then changing into trail shoes and putting on our ultra vests, the race then continues up the challenging Watkin path up to Wales' highest summit. Snowdon - Yr Wyddfa with 6km/3.7 miles and over 3,000ft of ascent followed by another 6km/3.7 miles of hard descent. Most triathlons finish at the end of the run. Not this one! Swim, Bike, Mountain, Bike, Run!
Once you've faced up to the mountain you have to descend and get back on the bike for a further 50k/30miles back to Abersoch. If that wasn't enough we then have to complete this epic endurance race with a 1km run along the energy-zapping sands. Wow! What an achievement this will be and us all and for a worthwhile charity too.
Ceri......."I entered....it has always been on my list of triathlons to complete. The winners were announced on the 25th of January - My birthday!! So all the signs were telling me to apply......I had to try and give it a go! I was one of the lucky five to get a place, and I can't let this opportunity pass without ticking off a bucket list race!
This race is up there with the most challenging triathlons. It scares me so what better reason than to give it a go! It's an enormous challenge for me as I've been concentrating on my ultra running for the last year, so I have to get back to training daily, dust off my bike and wet suit and go for it!"
