Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Our lives, like so many thousands of others, were devastated in November 2007 when John – a loving husband, father, granddad, brother and friend was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. He battled this dreadful disease with dignity and courage for three years, taking all the treatments on offer to him no matter how debilitating the side effects.
John died peacefully on October 29th 2010 surrounded by his loving family.
During John’s illness we were surprised to find that so little government funding is given to researching lung cancer – only 5% of the overall budget. This is despite the fact that it is the biggest killer in both the UK and Ireland.
So… to celebrate the life of John, Duffy’s dad PJ and all the many others who have been affected by this terrible disease, Sean, Johnny & Duffy are embarking on a cycle ride – leaving John’s home in Nottingham on Saturday 28th May and arriving at his farm in Mayo, Ireland on Friday 3rd June; covering a distance of some 450 miles.
We want to raise as much money as possible for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation – the only charity dedicated solely to the research, prevention and support of lung cancer.
So please dig deep and help us to consign lung cancer to the history books where it belongs.
