Story
My husband and I our doing a sponsored skydive in memory of our 3 child Leona. Leona was born 3 days before our son Duncan’s first birthday when our eldest Eloise was nearly 3, she had made our family complete, Eloise and Duncan loved having a baby sister, and I finally had a child that looked like me, Eloise and Duncan being blonde and blue eyes looked the same as their dad. Leona passed away from sids (sudden infant death) at just 9 weeks and 3 days in may 2010. Being a nursery nurse I thought I was aware of all the risks of sids but Leona passed away when she was having a nap on the sofa. Sharing the sofa with your child is high lighted as a risk of sudden infant death but them being on it by themselves isn’t very well exposed.
The money we will be raising will be going to the foundation for the study of sudden infant death. They have been working so hard for over 40 years to raise awareness of the risks and how to reduce risks, while funding research, helplines, family fun days and equipment and resources for the CONI (care of the next infant) scheme. We really wanted to raise money for this charity as it has done so much for us. We went on to have another daughter Yvie in May 2011, at it came as a very big shock to us, to find out we were having another child let alone another girl. Fsids have been there every step of the way, yvie was put on the CONI scheme which ment I had extra support from midwifes while I was pregnant, a breathing monitor and scales also weekly visites from the health visitor.
