Story
To my dear family and friends,
For nine (9) days, I will be taking a break from my usual yoga-work-party get-up in the bright lights of Singapore in lieu of hiking and cycling gear to trek across Knuckles Mountain Range, a UNESCO World Heritage in Sri Lanka, in support of women impacted by climate change. I would very much like for you to join me and cheer me to go on, albeit virtually, in this journey with a purpose across the beautiful Sri Lankan outdoors.
This endeavour is a self-funded team of 12 women under the banner of ‘HER Planet Earth’ - a non-profit organisation headquartered in Singapore dedicated to gender equality and environmental conservation. The team plans to cover a total distance of 150km (100km on foot in 4 days + 50km on bike), and summit Gombaniya (1,906m), the highest peak of the range, as the largest all-female team to ever attempt this route. The objective of the expedition is to raise awareness and funds, a team total of $50,000 USD, for the economic empowerment of underprivileged women in Sri Lanka, via UN Women, to help build their climate resiliency.
I have started preparing even as I was recovering from a shoulder injury with some friends. In Kuala Lumpur, I joined friends hiking ever so slowly to the top of Bukit Kiara (258m), and in Singapore, I cycled with a friend for 40 km in East Coast Park which got me thinking about padded shorts hahaha. I hope that you (MY AMAZING FAMILY & FRIENDS) will support me and this cause by donating in the fund-raising drive. I truly believe that when you help women, you help more than just women, and that there's a ripple effect benefitting entire families, communities, and countries, across generations.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I will be updating you on my preparation and up until the end of the trek so stay tuned :)
