I decided to do a year of service because my education in college combined with my experiences of doing service through campus ministry in high school and college have shown me the privileges I have been afforded throughout my life that I was long unaware of. I am committed to doing a year of service because it provides me the opportunity to use relationship development as an avenue to combat privilege and change the world for the better at both the individual and systemic levels. Relationships are the most important thing in my life, so going into this year, my biggest goal is to truly listen to those who I come into contact with so that I may form and foster relationships that will last for my whole life. In doing that, I hope my actions properly live out Jesus' message to love one's neighbor as oneself.
