We safe and decent homes for families to build new lives, hopes and opportunities

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

1.6 billion people around the world suffer by living in poor homes and 100 million are homeless due to extreme poverty. Poor living conditions lead to poor health, which in turn limits a family’s ability to earn an income. Education and healthcare are not free in many countries, and so a limited income means that these are jeopardised; consequently, a family’s ability to escape poverty is reduced. Poverty housing perpetuates the poverty cycle for generations.

As a team we will build a shelter out of any material we can lay our hands on, live in it for 2 nights and also compete in a 20km hike across the Peak District covering 1000m of hill ascent and completing challenges on route. By achieving our fundraising target we will help provide at least two families a safe decent place to live.

About the charity

We believe decent homes are the heartbeat of strong communities and so we also fight for land rights for women, upgrade urban slums and informal settlements, improve access to water and sanitation, and help communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.
