Wrexham Cats Protection's Isolation Unit Funding For Cats Like Harrison

Isolation Unit Funding · 19 February 2020
My name is Suzan and i'm the manager of the new Cats Protection Adoption Centre in Wrexham, which will officially open its doors in six weeks' time!
The new centre has 45 pens for cats, a veterinary treatment room, an admissions area for new cats, a training space for visitors and staff and an amazing new purpose built isolation facility which has five specifically equipped pens to accommodate cats with feline infectious diseases.
Cats that require our assistance and dedicated isolation unit will receive love, kindness and an understanding of their needs. This includes a spacious pen, which has:
The isolation facilities are of paramount importance for cats like Harrison who come into the care of Cats Protection Wrexham Adoption Centre showing signs of cat flu. Harrison had a very low body condition score, meaning he was very underweight and what remained of his long dirty fur was covered in matts and tangles. Harrison had visible signs of fleas and ear mites present and he also required extensive dental treatment. He needed to go onto medication to help him combat cat flu and had to be housed within the isolation unit here at the centre.
He received lots of TLC treatment along side his course of antibiotics and pain relief. With the assistance of being housed within our state of the art isolation unit Harrison was well on his way to getting better.
Harrison received flea and ear mite treatment and soon started to put weight on. Within weeks the cat flu symptoms had cleared and Harrison was deemed well enough to go under anaesthetic for his dental procedures.
15 teeth extractions later, weight gained, not a flea or ear mite in sight and Harrison looks like a new cat! He is now classified as a fit to home cat and is available to be adopted. With your help and support, we can help even more cats like Harrison.
Cats Protection Wrexham Adoption Centre will aim to home over 600 cats per year.
As part of our Minimum Veterinary Standards we ensure each cat or kitten is health checked, vaccinated, microchipped, neutered and receives routine parasite treatment prior to being rehomed.
To run an isolation facility of five pens for one month costs around £2000. We need your help, and with cats already in our care, we need donations to help continue to help cats like Harrison. Thank you so much for your support, whatever you can give.
