Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. I am supporting the Sepsis Trust as they run this vital campaign to raise awareness of the disease that kills too many people in the UK. Every pound donated will be doubled by Lord Ashcroft (a sepsis survivor)up to a total of £250k!! Early diagnosis of sepsis is crucial to avoid the most serious outcomes of the condition. If our awareness and that of the medical profession is improved more lives can be saved. It is that simple. I ran the Great Edinburgh Run last weekend and have done so well so far on my fundraising! I had never heard of sepsis until this year when my big brother was ill with the flu and feeling rotten. But then his feet went purple, he developed a rash and became hypothermic. His body started to shut down due to sepsis. He was admitted to St George's Hospital in Tooting where he suffered multiple organ failure. His life was saved with a pioneering technique administered by a crack specialist team from St Thomas' Hospital to where he was transferred for close monitoring. He was in a coma for a number of weeks and on dialysis and a VA-ECMO machine (google it - it's fascinating!). With the help of so many staff in the NHS at both St Thomas' and St George's he has fought back against this dreadful condition but he still has months of rehab ahead of him as unfortunately his left leg was amputated as a consequence.
