Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I will be taking part in the Arctic Blast Expedition next March 2024 with a team of adventurous individuals, to raise much needed funds for Velindre Cancer Centre Wales. Every one of us has been touched in some way by cancer, either directly or through friends, colleagues or loved ones. Fundraising efforts and donations help Velindre continue to be the leading provider of radiotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments in Wales and allows them to fund projects which improve the experience and outcomes of patients receiving care and support there, for example, by ensuring staff have access to the most up to date training and techniques available. Any one of us could require Velindre Cancer Centre services at any time. The Arctic Blast is a real challenge; an unsupported attempt to cover 100km across the Arctic Circle in 7 days, in snow shoes, crossing frozen lakes, skirt ancient glaciers, pass by the villages of the indigenous Sami people, witness some of the most stunning scenery on the planet, and hopefully get a glimpse of the Northern Lights. But, it’s definitely not a holiday. No flash accommodation or spa treatments (except, I’ve been told, for the odd application of Sudocrem). We will take a ‘shift’ in pulling pulks to carry backup equipment, we’ll be on the lookout for avalanches AND we’ll be managing each other’s feet - snow shoe blisters will be our enemy! This is a real expedition style challenge, all whilst raising much needed funds for Velindre Cancer Centre. I am part of a local team taking part from in and around Brecon and we have called ourselves the ‘Pulk Friction” arm of the Arctic Blast Expedition. We will be fundraising as a group and as individuals. For my individual fundraising, some donations may go towards the cost of the Arctic Blast Expedition.
