Story

Hello Friends,

My challenge for 2009 is to step up a gear from the relative comfort of walking in Ayrshire to take part in the Who Cares? Scotland Bhara Pokhari trek in Nepal from 30th October - 9th November.

As you might know, I worked for Who Cares? Scotland before being elected to the Scottish Parliament.  I want to do my bit to help raise funds so that Who Cares? Scotland can continue to support young people in care.

Who Cares? Scotland is celebrating its 30th Anniversary and this trek will give young people with experience of care the opportunity of a lifetime.

Working with Community Action Nepal , Who Cares? Scotland will share the funds raised, to help Health and Education Projects in Nepal.  I want to raise as much as possible for these vital projects.

Every little helps, so please donate what you can.  As well as online donations, I have had fantastic support from lots of organisations and individuals  who have donated offline:

Unison Ayrshire & Arran Health Branch £500

Mauchline Burns Club £100

Skerrington and Netherthird Co-op Womens Guild £20

To help with my training, I took part in the 'Big Bone Walk ' along the River Ayr,  and  the Edinburgh HalfMoonwalk.   From June to August, I completed the Fitbug Challenge, walking the equivalent distance of London to Paris by taking at lease 10,000 steps every day to cover  approximately 660,000 steps or 450 km.

I'm now looking forward to the Nepal Challenge and want to reach my fundraising target.  Thanks for your help !
