Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Twenty seven years ago I sat on a beach in Australia with my sister and watched the intrepid participants of Sydney Ironman hurtle into the sea. If someone had said to me all these years later that I would be doing the same, albeit in Bolton, not Bondi I would have laughed. Swimming was never my strong point having failed my Duke of Edinburgh being unable to tread water in my Dad's pyjamas.
In 2008 my Dad was diagnosed with MND and he fought a very brave battle against this cruel disease. In 2010 inspired by the courage of my Dad and the immense support given to him and our family by MNDA I set about the first of many challenges to raise funds for them in his memory.
In the following 6 years I have been overwhelmed by the support I have received from my family and friends and in my individual events I have raised to date £19,637 for my Dad's tribute fund. In order to justify asking everyone on such a frequent basis I have entered progressively harder events which has culminated in a 2.2 mile swim, 112 mile bike followed by a full marathon to be completed in 16 hours on 17th July 2016. This will be by far the hardest physical challenge to date but it is nothing compared to what people have to contend with who have MND.
I have asked many times and hope you don't mind me asking once more. Your support is always gratefully received to help fight this devasting condition for which there is currently no cure and, to provide care for those living with MND.
There are still places available if you'd like to join me!
Best wishes
Cathy xx
