Story
Roger Ernest Dawson, was an internationally renowned and beloved Maker and restorer of the Double bass .
He was a genius and master of his craft ,from an early age ,his talent earned him the name of 'Magic Hands' which continued through his life which he dedicated to making every instrument work and therefore making our lives easier. Everyone and every instrument , was treated with the same respect and honesty, whether being brought in by busy commercial, session, Orchestral, players or students .
Roger was my beloved partner .
After a shock diagnosis that he had already Stage 1V metastasized Prostate Cancer that had spread to his bones , we were taken under the care of Guys Cancer Centre Prostate team. Feeling there was no hope, with their amazing support and care and treatments , Roger was able to live on, and live well for 7 precious and happy years . Nothing stopped their care , even Covid and lockdown, they were always there to help and reassure, treatment was never halted or postponed.
They did all they could but last year, Roger died.
After an unsuccessful trial treatment at UCL, it was found that his Prostrate Cancer had gone to his Liver. We lost him brutally quickly, within days, not having time for any palliative care to prepare us.
But incredibly, even after loss, the Palliative care team at the Cancer centre still continue to help and support us bereaved ,helping me and many others to try to find a way to carry on.
Matt , one of Roger's sons ran the London Marathon Oct 22 for his Dad and Prostate Cancer UK. He raised, an incredible £4000 !
Inspired by him and his Dawson Spirit, I have to try to help the wonderful Prostate team at Guys Cancer Centre by trying to run the London Marathon in April 2024 and anything along the way to fundraise for this wonderful Cancer Centre!!
With your help we can try to bring something positive to people that find themselves with a frightening diagnosis.
Help me help the wonderful Doctors, Nurses, technicians, all the staff at the Cancer centre, help their patients and families and give them hope and support to live on, normally, for years, with Cancer. They certainly do not get enough help from the Government. I know times are tough for people, but any amount of money you can donate( the cost of a coffee) will make a huge difference.
Roger so bravely faced his challenge every day, living with an incurable Cancer.
So, I will be carrying Roger with me in my heart, as I do every day, particularly in every step and every stumble of the 26.2 miles .❤
Your help will give hope ..that is invaluable.
Love cathyX
