I'm taking part in the "Cuba Cycle Challenge 2009"

Music Fund for Cuba is a registered charity supported by the Cuba Solidarity Campaign and first established in memory of Kirsty MacColl in 2001. Monies raised will go towards providing much needed support and equipment for children and young Cuban musicians, dancers and artists throughout the island. Many essential items such as instruments, guitar strings, ballet shoes and teaching aids are in short supply. The cycle group will deliver aid directly to a school for visually impaired children in Havana where we will be guaranteed a rousing reception from the school Salsa Band.

I will be undertaking the Challenge with my husband Haydn and a number of my colleagues from Thompsons Solicitors. We will set off from Sancti Spiritus (one of Cuba's 7 original Spanish towns) and travel through dramatic rural countryside to Remedios on the Atlantic coast - a total of 350km passing through Trinidad, Cuba's best preserved colonial town and a UNESCO World Heritage site. I anticipate that the cycling is going to be hard but the views will be spectacular. We then travel to Havana for a reception and attend the May Day Rally in Revolution square which will be fantastic. As a lover of Cuban music and dance the trip will be a great opportunity to listen to some  music and dance salsa. I hope I will not be too sore to dance!

We are delighted to be raising funds for this charity. Our own children benefit from wonderful music and dance facilities and opportunities in their respective schools here in South Wales. Our contribution, with your assistance, will support special organisations who strive to offer opportunity to Cuban children. 

I have received some really great support from friends and collegues and not all of it appears on this site. I would particularly like to thank everyone at Thompsons who has helped with my fund, particularly Ian Bounds who has organised mailings and a raffle for me and Alison Thomas (and Alwyn FBU) who encoraged many to part with their money on 14th February at our rugby function. Thanks also to Claire Godsell and the Equal Pay team who donated their dress down day proceeds to my fund and to Sarah Goodman my collegue in Birmingham for her support. A big thank you too to David, Gary, Julie, Malcome et al at UNITE GPM  section. And finally thank you very much to Huw and everyone at 30 Park Place for your generous support.
