Story
Here is something I never thought I’d do! I have signed up to run the Wessex 10K for Cancer Research UK.
Cancer has touched too many of us either directly or indirectly. In the last year, friends have continued to fight this awful disease and cancer charities have missed out on vital fundraising due to Covid and I wanted to do something positive.
For those of you that know me well, you’ll know that historically I don’t do exercise (at school I’d be found hiding in the nurses station or purposely taking the wrong kit as I’d rather do detention than run round the hockey pitch). During the last year though this has changed and I have turned to exercise to help me get through various lockdowns and it has really helped my mental health.
I completed Couch25k in August last year and since then have kept running 5k twice a week. A few weeks ago I saw the Wessex 10K advertised and it got me thinking, could I? Would I? Should I? And before I knew it I’d clicked on the entry button. For me this is a massive step, but I want to use this as an opportunity to help raise funds for Cancer Research and to show that I can do it. I’m doing this in memory of my Dad and I know that he will be up there shaking his head is disbelief that his little girl now has a drawer of leggings and sports bras 😂
The race is on Saturday 7th August and starts and finishes from the Somerton rec. I would really appreciate any support you can give me. My putting this out there publicly I’ve told you all so I now need to get my head into training, any donations will certainly help spur that on!!
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page 😊
