Story
I have been a volunteer for AGE UK Milton Keynes for approximately 4 years, I am a Befriender and volunteer at a Monday Afternoon Memory Club set up in August 2017,for people in the early stages of dementia.
We run a club at a local venue every other Monday for an hour and a half, providing "socialising and confidence-boosting activities for people in the early stages of dementia, for people experiencing memory problems, whilst still living independently in the community" which usually ends with a song or two, where carers can leave their loved ones, and do normal every day things like grocery shopping, having their hair cut or just a well earned cup of coffee. Things which you and I take for granted.
I am part of a small group of volunteers who give up their time, we charge a very small fee which enables us to offer some refreshments, anything else is provided free of charge and by the volunteers. We are really hoping to be able to arrange a local day out this year, which is one of the reasons I am willing to put myself through 4 months of training, the change in the faces of the people we help is my only reward.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Please help in any way you can and make a donation to my page, I would really love to be able to raise the £125. which would go a long way. Dementia is more common than you think and any type of stimulation we can offer is so worthwhile.
