Story
Cambridge Peterborough and South Lincolnshire Mind is your local mental health charity. Taking place from the 23 July (5am BST) until 6th August (5pm BST) the Minds in Action Challenge is taking place in order to raise funds for different local Mind charities. We have set up this event with GoJoe to encourage wellbeing for those who take part and to raise funds for our incredible services. I will be raising money for two in particular:
Stop Suicide,
An estimated 1 in 5 of us experiences suicidal thoughts in our lifetime.
Suicide remains the biggest killer of men under 45.
STOP Suicide is an award-winning suicide prevention campaign that seeks to empower communities and individuals across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to help stop suicides by being alert to the warning signs, asking directly about suicide and helping those who are feeling suicidal to stay safe. It is led by the charity Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire Mind CPSL Mind and supported by local NHS and Public Health teams.
Dad's Matter,
Dads Matter is a new eight week course that is being designed for Dad’s who are experiencing mental health challenges after the birth of their children. It will provide support for Dads during the Perinatal period (moment of conception up to child being 2 years old).
The Fathers Reaching Out report (https://dadmatters.org.uk/fathers-reaching-out-why-dads-matter/) states that “one of the most common complaints from fathers was the lack of community groups which were formed exclusively for them.
The sessions are aimed at men who are experiencing mental
health challenges in the perinatal period and are suffering from symptoms such as worrying thoughts, anxiety and depression. The aim is to provide them with a collection of tools and reminders to nurture themselves to keep well.
