Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We are 2 Children's Clinical Nurse Specialist working at Bradford St.Luke's Hospital and we both have a different story as to why we would like to do this challenge so please read on if you would like to know why we are doing a challenge way out of our comfort zone.
Catherine- I have worked as a Children's Rheumatology Clinical Nurse Specialist for the last 9 years, returning to Bradford having started my general nurse career here, way back in 1989. Although we do our best we are always striving to improve the services we provide. Our children's rheumatology team would really like a portable ultrasound scanner for children's out-patients. This would enable the team to have another diagnostic tool to hand which could assist in a quicker diagnosis, leading to earlier treatment and therefore a better long term outcome. As part of this I am prepared to put myself though personal pain to get there. The children/ young people I care for face a daily battle with pain where as mine will be temporary. They will be my motivation to keep going when I am struggling, as I see their battles on a daily basis and they are a constant inspiration to me. Please, if you can assist me in reaching my goal I would be very grateful.
Jenny- I’ve worked in Bradford children’s community team for nearly 6 years and more recently become the paediatric surgical nurse specialist. Before Bradford I worked in London where I gained my surgical experience and Wakefield where I trained and consolidated my nursing, not as way back as Catherine, but in 2002. Bradford is a wonderful place to work, we have an excellent team of nurses and doctors based on the ward and in the community, not to mention the rest of the multi disciplinary team. It’s a daily challenge but very rewarding and all of us together make the families and children have the best possible experience in such circumstances. All of our children are important to us and im doing this challenge to help the team get new equipment and support from the hospital charity that’s needed for the families and for the nurses to do there jobs to the best of there ability.
Many of you know I’ve done a cycle challenge before and it’s one of the hardest things I have ever done so dig deep guys to support our little legs and a charity that is so close to our hearts. Thank you
