I have always wanted to run a marathon and this seems the ideal time. I decided on the charity Refugee Action as the plight of refugees is one of such suffering, of which I cannot begin to conceive. I decided to run for this charity after taking part in the Miles for Refugees challenge set by the Red Cross last year and learning of the fantastic and urgently necessary work carried out by such charities. Now witnessing the truly horrendous situation unravelling in Afghanistan, it seems even more urgent to support any charity who is working towards lessening their suffering in any way.

This is my first marathon and I am a mixture of anticipation, excitement, nerves and pure fear at times! I am running it with my fantastic friend and running buddy, Julie, and our training is going well so far. As many of you will know, my Dad, John Cassidy, was a fantastic long distance runner; I will most definitely be calling on the willpower and spirit of him on the day.
