Story
Hello and welcome to my page!
On 28 August 2022 I am planning to cycle 89 miles round Lough Neagh, the largest lake in Ireland. I am entering ‘Lap the Lough’ as a personal fitness challenge for my 60th birthday, but also to raise money for a charity very close to my heart.
‘Mercy Ships’ caught my imagination 5 years ago when my daughter spent a year working as a surgeon on the ship in Cameroon. It is an incredible organisation which runs two hospital ships sailing around Africa, providing life changing surgery for free to people who cannot otherwise afford it. I look forward to my next decade as an opportunity to have a little more time and freedom to pursue my dreams - working on the Mercy Ships as a nurse is one of those dreams.
Until I can physically be there myself I want to support the work of the ships in other ways. As I write this I have three months to get mind and body ready for the big cycle, and I’d love if you could support me in any small way to make my efforts worthwhile and to truly make a difference. I am aiming to raise £1200 (£20 for every year of my life). Please have a look at the Mercy Ships website and read the stories of lives that have been changed as a result of their work. The stories are incredible!
It’s been five years since I last cycled this distance so I’m slightly apprehensive, but I look forward to doing it again for such a great cause 🚴♀️
Thank you for taking the time to read my page 😊
