Story
The Wallace Group is a partnership created in 2004 by several leading UK universities to support sports development for young people in Zambia.
The partnership embraces: 7 UK universities (Cardiff Metropolitan, Durham, Edinburgh, Loughborough, Northumbria, St Andrews and Stirling), UK Sport, Basketball England, England Netball, The Perfect Day Foundation & Sport in Action.
What we do
The Wallace Group aims to support the development of long-term mutually beneficial relationships between the UK and Zambia, whilst making a difference to the lives of young Zambian people by empowering and enriching communities, through the power of sport, leadership and education.
Each summer the 7 universities of the Wallace Group team up to send students and staff members out to live in Zambia for 6 weeks, from the period of June-October. Working with Sport in Action (The largest Zambian Sporting NGO), the student volunteers help to deliver sport development programmes to over 160,000 children and 6 sporting organisations.
How we do it
Here at Loughborough University we look to select 6 students each year to represent the University in Zambia by undertaking the voluntary role of ‘Student Sport Development Officer’ in one of the following areas:
- Netball Development Officer
- Basketball Development Officer
- Women's Football Development Officer
- Media, Marketing & Communications Officer
