Story
Thank you for supporting this; it makes a real difference.
I'm never gonna be the fastest runner or run any absurd distances. This will not be a story of valliantly overcoming great odds or doing something spectacular. I'm going to be one of thousands of people running for fun, to stay vaguely fit, and because Hackney is my home turf and I love it.
But hell, I could run a half marathon solo if I wanted to. The point of this is to do it with a community, and as a community we may as well do something that's for more than just our own bonkers desire to cover 13.1 miles without crying. Or... crying much.
With that in mind, I'm fundraising for Macmillan. They are here to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, providing physical, financial and emotional support. It was a Macmillan nurse who did palliative care for my Gran in the final days of her life, and as we live in a society that is still terrified of talking about illnness, death and dignity, we could do with more of the compassion and professionalism that Macmillan brings.
