We fund research and raise awareness to create a world free from meningitis

Story

On August 16th, 2005, I attempted to go to bed thinking I had a headache. Within about half an hour, I could barely move due to the blinding pain that began in my head and seemed to pulse through the rest of my body. Over the next four months, there would be five hospital stays with weeks and weeks of bed rest in between. There would be rush visits to the emergency room to get IV drugs for pain when my oral pain meds would no longer help.

There were times when doctors no longer knew how to treat the continuous pain I was suffering. Over two years later, I have finally recovered without any major long-term side effects, besides the occasional migraine. Most patients diagnosed with bacterial meningitis are not so lucky.

I would like to thank my amazing parents who spent months by my bedside, lifting my body for me when I couldn't, and my loving friends who stuck with me through thick and thin. Of course, I would also like to thank Dr. Tornatore of Georgetown University Hospital, who never gave up on me , as well as those who will help save great lives by donating to this great cause.

Thank you for helping us raise over $7,000 (~£3,000) last year. But there is so much more we can do to spread the word about this deadly disease and to further the research to stop it.

Sincerely,
Catherine Castellanos

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
