Story
Hi and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I'll be running the BUPA Great North Run 2010, along with my brother Adam and cousin Jack, to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation UK - the leading charity that grants wishes for children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.
We have decided to help Make-A-Wish because of the massive support that gave our family after my twin sister - Ellie -was diagnosed with a brain tumour at 13. Ellie had a 6hr operation on New Years' Eve 2001 to remove a tumour from the right hand side of her brain - a grade 4 Glioblastoma, a severely aggressive form of cancer.
There was no direct cure for her cancer - chemotherapy was not an
option and radiotherapy only slowed the growth for a few months. During
what was, to say the least, a difficult year for our family Ellie
proved to have strength that was beyond belief.
During this time, Ellie was granted her wish of swimming with dolphins. Make A Wish helped get the whole family away and enjoy a really special moment which Ellie loved.
Ellie died peacefully on Monday, November 11th 2002 aged just 14.
There are around 20,000 children and young people living in the UK with a life-threatening illness, and in 2010 around 1,000 children will turn to Make A Wish to have their wishes granted. Make A Wish aim to raise £5m this year to achieve this goal. And this is where we need your help...!
