Story
I have been volunteering my time with the Junior League of Charleston Diaper Bank since it was just an idea being explored over 4 years ago. What I've learned is diaper need is a real issue. An issue that needs to be discussed, researched and solved.
Last year, I raised $340 for the Junior League of Charleston Diaper Bank. Please help me double that this year! With the impacts of COVID-19 being felt in our community, the need is greater than ever.
The Junior League of Charleston Diaper Bank is dedicated to increasing access to clean diapers for families in need throughout the Lowcountry. The JLC Diaper Bank collects, packages and works with community organizations to distribute diapers free of charge to those in need.
Before COVID, 1 in 3 families struggled to afford enough diapers to keep their child(ren) clean, dry and healthy. With all that has happened this year, there are certainly more parents facing the very stressful situation of trying to meet their baby's basic needs when there just aren't enough resources to cover all of the household necessities that month. Without diapers, children cannot attend daycare or early education programs, which may prevent parents from going to work or school. Without an adequate supply, children are often left in their diapers longer, which can lead to rashes, urinary tract infections and other medical problems
Despite being a basic hygiene item, government programs like WIC and SNAP don't provide for the purchasing of diapers. There is no public safety net for this issue. That's where diaper banks like the Junior League of Charleston Diaper Bank step in. We need to help these children remain healthy and dry. We need to help these children and families meet their full potential.
By supporting the JLC Diaper Bank, you can help #BetheChange for Lowcountry families. Together, we can #EndDiaperNeed!
