Story
On 15 th September myself and 7 others, are attempting to row London's River Marathon "The Great River Race" in aid of the charity Women for Women International UK. Collectively known as Red Legs 8 we'll be rowing long and hard in a 6 oar Cornish Gig, and attempting to complete the race of 21.6 miles , navigating our way under 28 bridges along the Thames, in under 3 hours. We are training hard and 2 weeks ago had our first team row on the sea at Hayling Island, to get used to the kind of waves and current we are told we will encounter on The Thames in just over 4 weeks time. Our hands are blistered but our spirits are up. Its going to be tough and we re hoping not to catch too many crabs.
We have decided to take on this challenge in memory of our great freind Sian who died last year in May. Sian campaigned for the acknowledgement of violence against women during war to be recognised as a war crime, and actively supported and raised funds for Women for Women International Uk. It is a charity which cares for and supports women suffering horrors of violence in conflict areas, particularly the women of Africa, the Balkans, the Middle east, and South Asia.
We are each going to kickstart our fundraising by sponsoring ourselves £50.
Please help us to reach our target of £2,400 by going to my Justgiving page at
