Story
My sister and I have decided, with your help, to raise money for Beat. Beat is an incredible charity that helps sufferers of Eating Disorders by offering a 24/7 helpline, support groups and information. Beat personally was a life line for myself when I was diagnosed with Anorexia in 2013. Having Anorexia is no glamorous experience, it's not solely to lose weight as many believe. For myself and many others it was a way of coping and a form of control over an aspect of my life, that spiraled out of control. Anorexia made me suffer mentally and physically, my hair would fall out, my skin bruise easily, I would struggle to sleep and was in a constant state of anxiety and self hatred. I would have weekly calls by C.A.M.H.S to my home, be weighed weekly by my doctor, was taken out of school, was having ECG's and bone density scans regularly. Anorexia took away so much of what made me, me. I was an empty shell controlled by Anorexia. Luckily with the help of Beat, my family, my friends, my boyfriend and the Mental Health Services I gained back my life. It was hard and I struggled a lot nearly being forced into an impatient facility, but Beat was always a support system available to me 24/7 as a lot of what I was struggling with was difficult to talk to my family and friends about. I was very lucky, and am still very lucky to be alive today. Some aren't so lucky. 20% of Anorexia patients stay chronically ill and Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any mental disorder. One in five of the most seriously affected will die prematurely. Please spare any money as no amount is too little for such a small charity. Thanks☺️
